Expert wood restoration with epoxy techniques

Broken or damaged woodwork can seriously damage a building’s structure. This affects the safety and lifespan of the building. Dolmans carries out timber repair work for you. We do this for all types of property, although we specialise in timber repair for listed buildings. Our aim is to preserve as much of the healthy monumental timber as possible. Among other things, we repair beam heads, wall posts, truss legs, key pieces and corbels.

Our working method

We specialise in epoxy techniques and wood restoration in listed properties. Thanks to epoxy techniques, the old structure is preserved and safe. This restoration method is less invasive, less costly, and certainly as strong as other techniques. After careful examination, we remove the affected wood and drill holes to insert reinforcement bars. We then fill the formwork that we put in the original shape of the beam with ITOX® Cast Resin. This anchors the cast-in reinforcement bars in the healthy wood, ensuring a strong connection.

FAQ

What types of epoxy techniques are there?

We use various epoxy techniques for wood repair, including seamless bonding of beams and bonding different wooden parts with epoxy. We also use epoxy resins to fill damaged wood parts.

What can you do against wood rot?

To prevent wood rot, it is important to ensure that woodwork is properly maintained, regularly inspected for signs of moisture, mould and wood-damaging insects, and treated with protective coatings if necessary.

How do you know if you have wood rot?

You can tell you have wood rot if the wood becomes soft or crumbly, discoloured, shows mould growth, or smells musty. You can easily check how solid the wood is yourself using, for example, a screwdriver.

How long does it take for wood to rot?

How fast wood rots depends on several bills. These include the type of wood, temperature and moisture content. This can vary from a few months to several years.

What signs of wood infestation should I look out for in my listed building?

You can watch for soft or imploded wood for piles of borate flour, holes in the wood, cracks in the wood, loose paint or plaster, the presence of mould and discolouration of the wood. It is important to have regular inspections to watch for these signs and take preventive measures.

Are there any risks associated with epoxy techniques?

No, epoxy repairs are carried out under the KOMO certificate, which guarantees quality. Our company is audited annually for quality.
